At Chiropractic Care of Bel Air, we emphasize a noninvasive, conservative approach to healing. Dr. Robert Reier specializes in the treatment of conditions which involve the nerves, muscles, ligaments and joints of the body.  His drug-free, non-surgical approach to health care focuses on the bio-mechanical and structural functioning of the spine, its effect on the nervous system, and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health.

Since Dr. Reier takes a wellness approach to health care, every aspect of your lifestyle is examined prior to implementing an effective plan of treatment. After a thorough evaluation, Dr. Reier will take you though a straight forward program to help solve your pain problems and improve your way of life.

Spinal Manipulation

Spinal manipulation (sometimes referred to as an “adjustment”) is the primary treatment offered in our office. Dr. Reier utilizes a variety of gentle but effective techniques that are based on the individual needs of the patient. Research has proven that spinal manipulation is a safe and effective procedure that helps increase range of motion, reduce nerve irritability, reduce muscle spasm, reduce pain and restore mobility to the spine.

Soft Tissue Therapy

Soft tissue mobilization is often used as an adjunctive procedure to help break up myofascial adhesions that may be limiting joint movement.

Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Services

In addition to spinal joint disfunction, muscles and connective tissues can be strained by improper alignment and use. The goal of physical therapy and rehabilitation services is to relieve pain while strengthening your body to guard against re-injury and joint degeneration. Our patients are taught how to stretch, strengthen, stabilize and tone muscles to help correct their unique problem. These exercises can be performed in the comfort of your own home and can improve the effectiveness of your treatment. Specific exercises and stretches can help relax tight muscles, increase joint mobility and stability, increase bone mass and muscular strength, and improve posture, coordination, and endurance.  Used regularly, they can help your body stay in balance and in good health.

PhysiotherapyPhysiotherapy

To complement and accelerate the healing effects of his treatments, Dr. Reier provides the following physiological therapeutic procedures:

  • Ultrasound  -  Ultrasound is a therapeutic procedure that utilizes sound waves to treat injured muscles, joints, and soft tissues. It’s been shown to decrease inflammation, decrease pain, and reduce stiffness and muscle spasms.

  • Electrical muscle stimulation  -  Often referred to as “muscle stim,” the therapy involves low levels of electrical impulses delivered to the injured, painful tissues to reduce pain and speed healing. Often described by patients as a pleasant, “tingling” sensation, or “electrical massage”, these impulses stimulate the body to release natural pain relievers, called endorphins. These endorphins reduce pain and inflammation, thereby promoting faster healing of the injured tissues. This therapy is often used to treat acute or chronic pain, as well as strains or sprains of the muscles, joints, and soft tissues of the spinal cord.

  • Moist heat and/or cold therapy - Ice and heat therapy are used to treat many painful an injury. Heat therapy increases blood flow and delivers needed oxygen to the affected area. The warmth relaxes the muscles, increases circulation, and can provide relief to patients with chronic pain.

  • Custom Built Orthotics  -  We offer custom made foot orthotics to help improve gait and spinal mechanics.

  • Nutritional Supplements and Counseling  -  It is no secret that a healthy diet and balanced nutrition are the foundation for good health. As part of Dr. Reier’s four-step approach to care, he will recommend a nutritional program that is specific to your needs. Nutritional supplements can play a vital role in helping you regain your overall health by reducing inflammation and improving joint mobility. They will be recommended on a case by case basis and are available at our office for your convenience.
